Slide, skate, sail and swing in the weekend!
1. This Saturday slide on down to Downtown Dartmouth for a heartwarming celebration of love – the 1st Annual Downtown Dartmouth Ice Festival! Ice sculptures, activities, FREE family fun, special offers! On Portland Street and King’s Wharf, check out more than a dozen ice sculptures and even get to see some live sculpting. On the corner of Prince and Portland, there will be free live entertainment later in the afternoon featuring The Big Sing, a certain Ice Princess, Jody Upshaw, and more. Be sure to bring some pocket change to enjoy hot chocolate and treats by donation, all proceeds go to support the United Way.
2. Feeling like a skate on the EMERA OVAL this Saturday? Urban Parent has the best excuse…Join Jerry Aulenback’s Beards on Ice and skate for a cause! Beards on Ice has raised $23,000 over the past 3 years with your help. Let’s build on that momentum to keep raising funds for this incredible charity which helps women and children survive domestic violence and live better lives. 100% of funds raised will support programs in communities across Canada aimed at preventing domestic violence and teaching youth how to develop healthy relationships.
3. ‘Sailor’s Valentines’, first thought to be an onboard ship’s craft, were made in Barbados and sold as souvenirs to sailors heading home to their sweethearts. This Saturday, Feb 9, at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, you can make a Sailor’s Valentine too! These beautiful Valentines are made by using ordinary beach shells and gluing them in fancy patterns onto a backing. Drop in between 1-3 pm, and use the shells supplied by the museum, or bring your own. This fun Valentine’s Day activity is included in the Museum admission price.
4. Who wants to try out a golf simulator? The Links at Brunello hosts a family drop-in on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9-12. Kids accompanied by an adult play for FREE! So, take Exit 3 on the 103 and head on over to the Links this weekend and practice your swing!
