Experience culture from 3 different continents this winter weekend!
1. Did you know that events at the Halifax Celtic Festival are Free? Join friends, family, and neighbours this year at The Halifax Forum Multipurpose Centre! You will find music, dance, food, cultural events and family-friendly activities. At 5:30pm on Friday get your toes tappin’ at the Kitchen Party followed by more music and dance until 10pm. Doors open again Saturday and Sunday at 11am for an entire weekend of Celtic fun! You can check out the schedule here.
2. Ring in the Year of the Pig at the Museum! It’s the fourth annual Lunar New Year at Pier 21. Enjoy a fantastic day of family-friendly workshops, performances and learning about New Year practices from various Asian cultures. Special guests will lead workshops on origami, stamps, paper cuts, Chinese writing, and dumpling making. Museum admission is your only cost.
3. Who’s up for some outdoor winter fun on the Halifax Waterfront? Head down to Sands at Salter & Foundations Place at 1259 Lower Water Street for a Winterful Waterfront Weekend! There will be heaps of activities for children and adults alike. Fire, food, hot drinks, music, mascots, games, winter yoga, and more. Activities run from 10 – 4pm on Saturday, and noon – 4pm on Sunday.
4. Capoeira classes for kids 6-8yrs start this Saturday at 3:30 at the Halifax Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Society at 5521 Cornwallis! Let’s get those kids movin’ with Capoeira, a powerful combination of martial arts, dance, music, acrobatics, folklore, ritual and history. Capoeira Group Dende – Halifax is hosting this 6 week session. The cost for the six classes is $60. Online signup is mandatory, but no child will be turned away for lack of funds.
5. SAVE THE DATE! The community of Sackville is getting together to Celebrate the Snow Days, February 15-18! Among an avalanche of activities, breakfasts, and parties, there’s a free-to-enter scavenger hunt going on throughout the weekend, clues will be available on their website and at the Sackville Public Library on Friday morning at 10am. The Days really kick off with a Free Family Costume Party on Friday at 6:30pm at the Sackville Legion and Winter Play Day is in full frolic Saturday from 1-4pm at Acadia Park. There’s a Free Skate at Sackville Arena on Sunday at 2pm and a Snow Days Parade on Monday beginning at the Legion at 2pm.
