Weekend Wrap-Up Nov. 3-5, 2017

Get folksy and crafty, fly a kite and smash a pumpkin! This weekend comes bearing some seriously amazing events: a concert, a workshop, a hootenanny, and a craft fair to suit whatever is up your alley…

1. This Friday at 7:30, multi-award-winning songwriter and 2017 ECMA Entertainer of the Year, Lennie Gallant, his talented band, and his sister’s art will dazzle your eyes and ears at the Spatz Theatre with the final performance of the “Searching for Abegweit: The Island Songs & Stories of Lennie Gallant” Tickets are $40/seat and available here. This one of a kind concert is suitable for kids 10 and up…and you!
2. A free 4-day workshop on Afghani Kite Flying begins with the first session this Saturday from 10-1. This educational and creative class, open to youngsters (8+) and adults is being held at Captain William Spryfield Community Centre November 4, 18, 25, and December 2. This unique workshop will offer families and children an opportunity to create their own colourful Afghani kites and enjoy flying them in an outdoor field. 3. Prepare for a Harvest Hootenanny Saturday at 1. Bring your goopy old pumpkin and smash it to bits! The corner of Bell and Robie is where it’s at, Common Roots Urban Farm, and there is no cost to attend. There will be global and local live music, tons of present food, including a dessert potluck, and future food—some garlic that needs planting—as well as a scavenger hunt, silent auction, and mulch mulch more!
4. Craft fairs and flea markets, this weekend Halifax is exploding with them. It’s off the hook. We’ll give you the who, what, where, when, and why; you decide which bazaar is right for you…or hit ‘em all up and end up with far too many things (or just enough so you’re set for the holidays). Up to you.
   • The APSEA Auxiliary Fall Fair in support of children and youth who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, blind or visually impaired takes place at the APSEA location on 5940 South Street on Saturday beginning at 1. Admission is $2 for great deals on crafts, gifts, plants, jewellery, books, holiday décor, and toys, a white elephant and silent auction.
   • A Punk Flea Market with tons of vendors will surface at RadStorm on 6050 Almon Street Saturday from 12-5. Records, zines, art, vintage clothing and old band shirts, handmade jewellery, patches, pins—all these wicked things and other rare finds. No entry fee.
   • Always an uplifting experience, the Mystic Market will be highlighting local palm, tarot, and astrology readers this Saturday at 10 at the Comfort Inn in Bayers Lake. From crystals to dreamcatchers, incense, etcetera…Admission is $2.
   • Willowbrae Academy in Timberlea is hosting a Fall Flea Market and Craft Fair at their facility on 1714 St. Margaret’s Bay Road on Saturday from 9-5. Good deals, great crafts and gifts! Admission is $1.
   • It’s already Christmas at the Forum, a festival of crafts, antiques, art, and food, where Santa Clause has set up a photobooth! And guess who is going to show up from 11-1 on Saturday and Sunday? Moana! She is pals with the big guy. Who knew? Urban Parent did! The entire craft show, affectionately known as “The Big One,” opens at 10, stays open till 9 on Friday and Saturday, till 5 on Sunday. Entry fee is $9 for adults, kids under 12 are free, Saturday after 5 is 2 for 1.
