Weekend Wrap-Up May 5-7

Big trucks, books of all sizes, music, art, and video games. There’s something for everyone to love in HRM this weekend and none of it should break the bank!

1. From trucks to fire engines, cars to bikes, diggers to boats…all in one space…see them, touch them, sit in them, and have pictures taken. This year at the Halifax Exhibition Grounds, Touch-A-Truck is bringing kids of all ages and automobiles closer together! This family friendly fundraiser for Eastern Front Theatre goes from 10-5 on Saturday and tickets are just $5 in advance.
2. All kinds of books for all ages for zero dollars! Spryfield‘s Annual Book Bonanza takes place on Saturday from 9-1 at Captain William Spry Community Centre. How many copies of Goodnight Moon can you find?
3. Head to The Music Room this Saturday for a free student’s recital. No matter if your children are not students, Atrium Music Services welcomes all. Take this opportunity to check out the fine acoustics in The Music Room, the services Atrium Music have to offer, and the sounds of kids making music!
4. Every Friday and Saturday a lovely art studio opens their doors from 2-4:30 and 5-7. If you’re looking for a fantastic and creative and free way to spend the afternoon, you will find it Wonder’neath at 2891 Isleville Street! Try needle felting, painting, screen printing, Plasticine sculpting, sewing, and much more. Wonder’neath keeps a supply of interesting and odd materials, free to use in any way you wish. Volunteers and artist facilitators are on hand to share knowledge, experience and ideas, help you problem solve, find space to work, and feel at ease.  No experience necessary!
5. Help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society by participating in Atlantic Canada’s largest console gaming fundraiser. Game Over, Cancer! at the Dalhousie Student Union runs all Saturday from 10-8 and makes for a great excuse for the whole family to have a blast! For $10 a head, $15 for entrance to the event and the tournament, relive the nostalgia of your favourite old console games and let your kids have a crack at them too…if you can let go of the controller. Just kidding, there will plenty of controllers to go around! The tournament starts at 12:30 and is open to gamers of all ages. Please keep in mind that though the event itself is rated PG, some of the games may not be appropriate for all ages.
