Wiener dogs, a beach party, a troll, a queen, and Canada like crazy! Summer Solstice has hit and we want you to celebrate it!
1.Release the hunds! By that we mean dachshunds, AKA wiener dogs, and they will all be at year’s Weinerpawlooza. The tiny, short-furred bundles of fun will form a spunk (the technical word for a group of dachshunds) at Shubie Park in Dartmouth on Sunday from 11-3 and events will include wiener races and a costume contest, they’ll have a BBQ and a kissing booth. Please keep in mind the celebrated dogs’ tiny stature, be a dear, and do not bring your big dog…unless, of course, it’s a dachshund who just thinks it’s big!
2. This weekend’s Urban Parent Road Trip Recommendation goes to the Summer Kick-Off Beach Party on beautiful Hubbards Beach. From 10-4 on Saturday (rain date: Sunday) get your beach wear and sunscreen on and prepare to have a blast. Beach Buns Grill will be there serving up gourmet sausage dogs (the only kind of dogs allowed on the beach, if dogs are your thing, please see event #1), South Shore Board Sports will be on the scene for all your ocean gear rental needs, and there will be live music – all set on one of the most magnificent beaches this side of Florida! Standard Hubbards Beach access rates apply.
3. It’s started…Canada Day Sesquicentennial Celebrations are ON with a bang! This Saturday evening (rain date: Sunday), starting at 7:30, Dartmouth Crossing is hosting Kick-Off Canada 2017! There will be live music, giveaways, free cake, and a giant firework show!
4. Patriot Days, a pile of family-oriented celebrations organized around Canada Day, begins in Sackville this Saturday! There’s going to be a ton of wild fun in Sackville from this Saturday straight through Canada Day to July 2nd. Check out the Sackville Patriot Days schedule for this weekend and onward! This schedule is subject to change, new things are bound to pop up, so check back often. At the time of putting this Weekend Wrap-Up together, the Little Princess Party at the Stoneridge Fellowship Parking Lot was not yet posted to the Patriot Days line-up, but don’t let that stop us from telling you about it… Inside scoop: your kids are invited to Meet Poppy Troll and Queen Elsa! On Saturday from 11-3, they’ll be painting faces, telling stories and posing for pictures all day and hosting dance parties at 12:30 and 2:30. Adults are $5, kids under 12 are free!
