From stars to stories, here’s what you can get up to this weekend in the HRM!
1. Get astronomical and explore the Friday night sky and gaze upon the stars with the Young Naturalists Club and members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. See celestial bodies though powerful telescopes at the York Redoubt Historic Site! It will all happen at 300 Fergusons Cove Road just outside Halifax toward Herring Cove. Send an email to Karen at ynchalifax@yncns.ca to register, and then meet the Club in the Historical Site’s parking for a 7:00 start on Friday evening. Plan to arrive early!
2. Dinosaurs Unearthed roars back into the Museum of Natural History with their largest Dinosaur exhibition ever! To celebrate the opening, the Museum will host two days of special events. Drop in and meet a paleontologist, do dinosaur arts and crafts, and go on a scavenger hunt, there will be refreshments and more. Be among the first to see this extraordinary new exhibit!

3. Hey everyone in the Hubbards area! J. D. Shatford Memorial Public Library has a wonderful craft drop-in for kids this Saturday! They are crafting up lovely winter tree silhouettes from 11-1. It’s officially for 5 years + but kiddos under 5 are welcome to attend with an adult. Like all Halifax Public Library Events, it’s free. If this isn’t in your area, check out what else the Libraries have to offer in your neck of the woods!
4. Read, play a game, tell a joke, follow a recipe… What are you going to do to encourage literacy on this year’s Family Literacy Day? There are so many choices… Words are everywhere! Family Literacy Day gives you the excuse to read together! It is a national awareness initiative held annually on January 27 to point out the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills dramatically and can help parents improve their skills as well.
