Kick that case of the Februaries out the door and celebrate Lunar New Year, African history, sing-e-brate your heart out, and get a little squirrelly!
- Go ring in the Lunar New Year at Pier 21! Learn about various Asian traditions, participate in workshops, enjoy yourselves some live performances. A family day pass is $34.50, covers two adults and three children, and the museum is open from 10 to 5.
- All February long, it is African History Month! All month long Halifax Public Libraries are offering great Africa-themed shows and crafts for the kids. This weekend boasts a couple of gems… On Friday Captain William Spry Public Library presents a live drumming and dance performance by Amadou Kienou and the Djeli Sira from 3-4:30 and on Saturday, the lovely staff at JD Shatford Public Library in Hubbards help the kids create Asimevo patterns on paper from 11-12. Also, go ahead and check out the African Nova Scotian Affairs Website for events going on throughout the month and all over the province in celebration of African History Month.
- If all that celebrating makes you feel like singing, then you might be in the mood for a Sing-e-Bration! It’s a party where everyone sings…. the outgoing kid, the shy kid, even you…all in support of Phoenix House and its birthday. Give what you can for admission and support a great cause: a non-profit organization dedicated to helping youth. The croon-along happens at St. Andrew’s United Church at 1390 Robie on Friday evening. Starts at 6. Be there or be…not quite as musical as you could be this weekend.
- It’s no secret that here at Urban Parent we are crazy for squirrels… Perhaps it was until now. Well, do you know that squirrels are fantastic? And CUTE AS ALL GET OUT? And what’s more that they sometimes barbecue, hang laundry, and fall in love? Find out and see delightful photographic evidence at The Secret Life of Squirrels book signing at Chapters in Bayers Lake with local author Nancy Rose at noon on Saturday.
