In this weekend’s Wrap-Up, things are looking UP… There are more trees to be lit up, chili to warm up with, a technology pop-up, and a variety of Santas are sitting up all over town!
- Just when we thought the Halifax Holiday Hustle had run its course, we heard about these Bonus Tree Lightings! If you haven’t made it out to a lighting or if you have room for one or two more, may we suggest heading over to Shubie Park for 4 on Saturday to take part in their Christmas Tree Lighting. Or join the gang at Freeman’s Sackville at 6 on Sunday for a Family Tree Lighting with holiday carollers, prizes, refreshments, Santa and more! There’s no admission, but please bring a non-perishable food donation for Beacon House Food Bank.
If you haven’t already caught on, all tree lightings are in RED on the Urban Parent Calendar, and other seasonal events are in GREEN. Festive of us, huh?
- Prepare to warm up on the inside while having fun outside at the First Annual Chili Warm-Up and Family Fun Day on Argyle Street. Enjoy a hot bowl of chili and warm drinks while listening to music. Local businesses will be giving out chili samples and you will be able to buy a bowl of your favourite for $5 and cornbread for $2. There will be a contest for the best chili and Mayor Mike Savage will be one of the judges! There will be games and activities aplenty for children including a giant snow globe photo booth and cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus. All this family fun, presented by the Downtown Halifax Business Commission, is going on from 11-3 on Saturday and there is no admission! What’s more, parking is free on weekends all December long at the Pay & Display lots on Lower Water Street.
- Watch as the future is invented before your very eyes! The Halifax Central Public Library presents Pop-Up Tech: 3D Printer, LEGO Mindstorm, and Makey Makey. Watch 3D printers make holiday ornaments, play with Makey Makey, and see Lego Mindstorm in action. Be there or be square …or circle, or triangle… at the Lobby of the Library on Saturday between 2 and 4. Like all Halifax Public Library events, all this interactive, wonder-inspiring, creative tech fun is free!
- Make a date with Santa. We will give you all the options for Mall Santas across HRM.
Sunnyside Mall – photos with Santa are $5 and the proceeds go toward FEED NS and Autism NS. St. Nick will be there until December 23, and his hours are: Thursday and Fridays 5-8, Saturdays 10-1 and 2-5, and Sundays 1-4.
Mic Mac Mall – Santa’s Polar Club is on the second level Bay Court and the kind folks are giving away free photos with Santa on a USB stick. The big guy is there until December 23 and will be available Monday-Saturday 12-8 and Sundays 12-5. Plus, this guy tells stories on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30-12! No registration required.
Halifax Shopping Centre – get your Santa photo emailed for free or pay $5 for a 4×6 print. Proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Santa will be Ho-Ho-Hoing at this mall until December 23, and is located just inside entrance 4 by RBC. Santa’s hours are: Thursdays and Fridays 3-7, Saturdays 10-2 and 3-7, and Sundays 2-4.
Bedford Place Mall – the elves are charging $5 per picture and sending the proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society. Santa will be will be lending his ear until December 22 on Mondays & Tuesdays 2-4, Wednesday-Friday 6-8, Saturdays 10-12, and Sundays 1-4.
