Urban Parent has 4 hot tips to make this globe a better planet on Earth Day: clean up, plant flowers, ride a bike, shop second hand.
- Show the land you care by picking up garbage! There are at least a couple of group clean ups going on in HRM. The Commons on Sunday from 10:30-11:30 will be set upon by a group of cleaners led by Our Positive Planet. Bring some gloves (gardening gloves or rubber gloves work great), a bag or bucket, and a smile!
“The Great Eastern Shore Spring Cleanup Weekend” culminates on Laurencetown Beach where East Coast Surf School is hosting a clean up from 9-12 on Saturday, Sunday if it rains. - Plant some flowers to help bring back the bees! Chapters in Bayers Lake has bee-lined up a special Storytime with Bella and Jack Bring Back the Bees by Paulette Bourgeois and illustrator Josée Bisaillon on Saturday from 11-12. Plus, take home a packet of wildflower seeds to start your very own bee-friendly garden!
- Ride your bike. Take it where ever you really need to go this weekend! Or just bike for fun! The Mother-Daughter Earth Day Ride, is on Sunday, leaving from Idealbikes on 103 Chain Lake Drive at 2, and going southbound down the Rails to Trails and back for about an hour. This group ride is for all skill levels doesn’t cost anything, uses no gas, and you don’t have to register.
- Shop wisely… Buy second hand when you can! Check out what the Community Flea Market and Bake Sale in Indian Harbour has to offer (8291 Peggy’s Cove Road beside the Whale’s Back Country Store). Find lots of treasures priced to sell, home baked treats and a kids’ lemonade stand on Saturday from 9-3.
Also Saturday morning starting at 9, but out Dartmouth way, there’s the PTO Kids Consignment Sale at Portland Estates Elementary School. See if it lives up to the claim of being the best consignment kids sale in HRM in terms of both prices and quality.
