Weekend Wrap-Up March 9-11, 2018

Get Irish, an official scholastic chess rating, a new friend, and maybe even a house bunny!

  1. Join Halifax’s Irish community and celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day at the flag raising and annual parade. The flag will be raised at noon at Grand Parade Square. The parade begins at 1 at Terminal Road and winds its way along Lower Water Street to finish at Historic Properties. Dig out your best green and, if you’re not Irish already, be Irish for the day! Sláinte!

  1. Kick off March break and get strategic with the 23rd Annual March Break Chess Tournament at Alderney Gate Public Library. Grades P-12 are eligible. To register, call 902-490-5748. The official deadline is this Thursday, but if you’re late, they will fit you in if there is room. You don’t need to have a rating, there will be prizes, and it’s free. In fact, everything this March at Alderney Gate Public Library sounds particularly great! Check out their program listing for more details on this event and other great ones.
  2. The Bella Rose Arts Centre on Thomas Raddall Drive will be bursting with deliciousness this Saturday evening from 5:30-7:30 for SupperNova, a free potluck organized by Immigrant Service Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS). Bring the whole family to foster meaningful relationship between new immigrants and Canadian-born residents. There will be multicultural foods and entertainment. Bring a dish if you can!
  3. Ever wanted to meet some adorable, adoptable rabbits? Have you ever wondered what having a house bunny entails? Join 10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue at Ally’s Pet Valu in Clayton Park on Saturday from 12-3 to have all your questions answered and even meet some rabbits who are looking for their forever homes. This delightful Adopt-a-Bunny event will surely increase your knowledge on rabbit ownership. Tell them Urban Parent sent you to receive an Easter treat!
