Costumes ready? It’s the HalloWrap-Up for this HalloWeekend! Our recommendations for this frightful occasion include fun Downtown Halifax, library treats, a safe option on the Halifax Waterfront, and of course, a couple of wicked parades!
- Spooky fun awaits Downtown Halifax from noon-3 including face painting, trick-or-treating from store to store, and more. Don’t be afraid, dress-up in your favourite costume and creep, float, or crawl your way around the city. Darth Vader, complete with all the force, will be at Argyle Fine Art.
- Halifax Public Libraries always do right by holidays and this freaky one is no exception. Even better, library events are free! Woodlawn is offering a movie for this Friday’s in-service day. Hotel Transylvania 2 will be screened at 1:30.
Put on your costumes and head over to Keshen Goodman in Lacewood for a Ghost StoryWalk around the library property while reading Linda Williams’ interactive Halloween story, The Little Old Lady Who was not Afraid of Anything on 2:30 on Saturday.
Keeping in costume…JD Shatford is hosting a Halloween Party with slime, sugar skulls, and games at 11 on Saturday in Hubbards. Also going on in Hubbards on Saturday is the Through the Years Day Care & Community Centre Family Halloween Dance from 6-8:30. Admission is $10/family.
- Part of the Harvest Moon Festival, the Historic Properties on the Halifax Waterfront is presenting “Safe Halloween” with activities for the whole family including a good dose of tricks and treats. From 12-3 on Saturday the Courtyard and Market will be decorated a la All Hallows. There will be a photo booth, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin checkers, face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, and without a doubt, candy treat bags for kids.
- What says Halloween louder than a bunch of people marching through the streets in costume?! What’s better than letting a parade cross your path than joining in?! Hal-Con’s 5th Annual Parade on Saturday morning at starting and ending at Halifax Central Library will not disappoint. Costume entry opens at 9:30, the parade begins at 11, and awards and pictures will go on till 1:30.
In Dartmouth, Halloween gets Spooktacular! Meet at Ferry Terminal Park at 11 on Saturday for a family costume parade. Walk along Portland Street to Victoria Avenue for a treat bag and a party complete with a bouncy castle, cake, and prizes! Halloween isn’t just for kids…costumed adults can win prizes!
If this HalloWrap-Up made you want to brush your teeth and you’re dreading the amount of candy the kids may amass, your house might benefit from a visit from the Switch Witch. She’s kind of like the Elf on the Shelf’s wicked aunt. While this rather new tradition allows for participation in the fun, inviting the Switch Witch over to swap the kids’ candy with a rad toy or some money while they’re sleeping is a fun way to curb the candy madness.
