But Mommm: Family Day

“Family Day? What does that mean?” asked my 7 year old this morning when she realized it wasn’t a school day.

She was so excited when I told her it was a day for families to spend together doing something fun. She wasn’t too long getting out a piece of paper and a pen to make a list (just like her mom!) of the things we could do today – sledding, board games, a movie, baking and the soap-making kit she bought with a gift card she got for Christmas.

We’re making our way through the list and are paused now for lunch. Sitting here at the table with rosy cheeks from being outside for so long we started talking about Family Day and how cool it was to have a holiday just for us. For kicks, I thought it would be fun to take a little poll and the results were too sweet not to share.

What does family mean to you (in one word)?
7 yr old: love
9 yr old: caring

What do you love most about being in our family?
7 yr old: the love i feel
9 yr old: if I mess up, you guys will still love me no matter what

What is your best family memory?
7 yr old: going to Florida
9 yr old: yup, our trips to Florida for sure, oh and that time I laughed so hard I actually peed!

What do you love doing together as a family?
7 yr old: going on hikes
9 yr old: playing board games and watching movies…can we do that now?

Ok, one more – what would you change about our family?
7 yr old: I don’t want to change anything
9 yr old: nothing really – except if our last name could be BobbyJo. Ha ha!

Pretty short and sweet but still neat to get their take on things. Try it for yourself and see what sort of responses you get. Feel free to share them in the comments below or on our Facebook page.

Happy Family Day!
