Weekend Wrap-Up Thanksgiving, 2017

Hey how are ya? Ready for a harvest? Looking forward to some turkey? Even if you have family dinner plans, there are three full days to make use of this weekend, so take the entire family out there! Have we got a Free Fair for you and pumpkins and Grease (the Musical), and a Thanksgiving Potluck!

  1. Fall. Fall is good. Fall Fair. Sure, they’re one of our favourite events! Free Fall Fair? Now you’re talking. Way to make Thanksgiving weekend amazing! Even the parking is free, not the midway though, that would be too much to be thankful for. All long weekend long at the Halifax Exhibition Centre there will be bouncy castles, carnival rides, games and food, face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, and magicians. Fair hours are Thursday: 3-9, Friday-Sunday: 11-9, and Monday 11-5.
  2. What is the official round, orange food of fall? Pumpkins, of course! Learn more about them at the Alderney Landing Farmers’ Market, the site of the best Pumpkin Food and Folklore Festival ever. The pumpkin fun begins at 8 on Saturday and goes till 1 and on Sunday the clock strikes pumpkin from 11-3. Check out the Bluenose Ghosts page for more on these pumpkins and further haunted events.
  3. Now this event is a true gem, not necessarily Thanksgiving-themed, but you will certainly be thankful you went… A Grease Sing-Along!  That’s right, they’ll be playing the classic movie on a big screen and XARA choir will be there for you to sing along with. Take the whole family to St. Matthew’s United Church on Barrington. Don’t worry if you can’t remember all the words, not only will be snacks, but the lyrics will be projected. Tickets go from $2-15 and funds raised go towards the church choir’s upcoming tour.
  4. Oh, so you haven’t made Thanksgiving Day plans? Or your family’s dinner is on Sunday and you’re free on Monday? The Dalhousie International Centre is hosting a Thanksgiving Potluck Supper from 3:30-6:30 Monday afternoon and all are welcome. To ensure a good variety of eats, if you’re last name starts with F, you’re bringing an appetizer, with S, a dessert, check the Thanksgiving potluck’s Facebook event page for all the details.
