Weekend Wrap-up: Sept 22-23, 2012

Don't let the rain dampen your spirits this weekend! There are tons of fun fall activites and events on the go so check the event calendar for the full list! 1. For the past 50 years, the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) has been opening its doors to thousands of intrigued visitors twice a decade – and this is the weekend! The Open House will showcase some of the Institute's cutting-edge research with many interpretive and interactive exhibits. Come get your hands wet and learn so much about ocean life.  Admission is free and it's an event for the whole family that's not to be missed! 2. You can't beat the vast amounts of gently used children's clothes, toys and accessories at the famous POMBA sale happening on Saturday. If you have small kids and need extra stuff for them, this is certainly the place to go! 3. Parker Street Food & Furniture Bank is organizing its fourth annual Pull for Parker Street fundraiser on Sunday! Teams of seven compete by pulling a fire truck across a 120 foot course. The winning team receives praise and glory and the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped to financially support the ongoing work of the Parker Street Food & Furniture Bank. Music, entertainment, face painting and a barbecue will all help to create a carnival atmosphere. All are welcome to attend and cheer on the teams. 4. Head to the Halifax Waterfront for Word on the Street – a joyous family friendly celebration of reading and the written word! This year's festival will feature author readings, panel discussions, discounted books, a special kids area and more! Not to mention the popular book-readings aboard Theodore Tugboat! 5. The seeds have been planted and they’ve been handled with care. Now our little seeds have grown on their very own. It’s that time to come back to Ross Farm and harvest the pumpkin you planted in the spring. They are all ready to go so do not forget to come and pick up your pumpkin! (THE FOLLOWING EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED) As well you can join the Atlantic Canadian World War 2 Living History Association as they put on a World War 2 reenactment at Ross Farm! (CANCELLED). Many of the members you'll remember from our past civil war encampments that have been taking place here over the years. It's sure to be an exciting weekend with them here, they love to have a yarn with visitors so be sure to drop by and have a chat!
