What is yellow, dark, animated, and orange? This Weekend Wrap-Up! The upcoming, somewhat spooky weekend is bursting with a live performance by Splash’N Boots, art at Nocturne, movies with Cineplex, and a Pumpkin Regatta!
- Hey Halifax, on this Sunday at 2, get your Yellow and Blue dancing boots on, because Splash’N Boots “Big Yellow Tunes Tour” is coming to your backyard! Recently nominated for their 4th Juno award for Children’s Album of The Year, Splash and Boots “Big Yellow Tunes Tour” includes the entire Big Yellow Boot family! Tickets are $21.
- Nocturne is for all and this year there is a lot to get involved in! Some interactive exhibits that the kids might particularly like are: Revisionist Landscapes on Summer Street by the QEII, join the Young Naturalists Club and make a leaf paper bag lantern; at HumaniT on South Park Street, artists will be painting live throughout the night; join the Letterpress Gang at the Dawson Printshop on Brunswick to print your own linocut; participate in a community comic drawing session with the Hal-Con team at Boston Pizza Granville; and/or hand print a Canada 150 postcard at CRAFT Nova Scotia at the Seaport. Saturday night, 6-midnight, Halifax goes all kinds of creative, and P.S.: it’s all free!
- Did we say free? How ‘bout free movies? Cineplex is celebrating Community Day and that means they are not issuing tickets for films starting between 9 and 11 on Saturday morning. At the Dartmouth Crossing Cineplex and at Scotiabank Theatre in Bayer’s Lake, Cineplex is showing Ice Age: Collision Course at 10:15, Kung Fu Panda 3 at 10:30, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children at 9:45, and Trolls at 9:30.
- Pumpkin this, pumpkin that … pumpkin boat! The 19th annual Windsor/West Hants Pumpkin Regatta rows forth this Sunday afternoon. Be there at the Falmouth side of Lake Pesaquid at 2 to watch some rather silly people race some definitely silly pumpkins down a river. Get in your carriage, pray it doesn’t turn into a pumpkin, this is definitely roadtrip-worthy!
Note that we did not recommend anything to go out and do on Friday the 13th. It’s not that we are superstitious here at Urban Parent, it’s just that we are not not superstitious…have a happy and safe weekend, and don’t go looking for any bad luck!
