Weekend Wrap-Up May 19-21

High energy and high culture…perhaps with a pop of colour! Run like a Bluenoser, read local, colour each other, shear a sheep, and paint like Maud.

  1. Get ready, set, go go go, and giv’er till ya quiver! It’s Bluenose Marathon weekend! The Doctors Nova Scotia Youth Run starts at 11 on Sackville Street near Queen Street and before that, at 9:30, warm the kids up at the Youth Run Pre-Race Mixer at the Scotiabank Centre. After the race, don’t stop running till you get to Freshii, kids can show their medals to get a delicious free lunch with the purchase of an adult meal.

  1. When the alphabet goes all the way to zooplankton, you’ll know you’re at an Atlantic Animal ABC book launch! Hosted by Nurtured Products for Parenting on Agricola on Saturday at 3, author Angela K. Doak presents her new book that features 26 local creatures.

  1. This Weekend Wrap-Up’s road trip-worthy recommendation sends you down the South Shore to the Colour Festival at Shipyards Landing in Bridgewater. Inspired by the Indian festival of Holi, it’s an excuse to joyously throw vibrant colours with (and at) your kids and join in on the activities from 11-3 on Saturday. As well as colour throwing, they’ll have sidewalk chalk, Frisbees, bubbles, hula hoops to play with and more! Packets of colour are $4.50 and proceeds go towards continuing development of Art Happening Bridgewater. If that is not enough fun for you, zip down highway 12 towards New Ross to Ross Farm for their Wooly Weekend where the sheep will shed their winter sweaters the old fashioned way! There will be demonstrations of sheep shearing, and preparing and spinning wool all weekend long. Museum hours are 9-5. Entrance for a family is $20.

  1. PD-Day solution found at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia! Send those kids from primary to grade 6 to paint like Maud Lewis this Friday for no more than $40 + HST. Drop of is between 8:30 and 9, pick-up between 4 and 4:45.
