Hey kids! Here’s a collection of things you can do with Mom this weekend. It’s not going to cost much, and bonus, it’ll be fun for the whole family (that means you too)!
- The 4th Annual Mini Con is a full-day all-ages celebration of all things geek! Come dressed in your favourite cosplay, join in great programs, and nerd out! Drop in any time Saturday between 9 and 5. And like all things library, this event is all kinds of free!
- Merlin the talkative Rainbow Macaw is celebrating his 16th birthday on Saturday at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic! Activities including a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts (and more!) The party will run at 10 to 11:30 and 2 to 3:30. The cost of museum admission (family rate $24.75) gets you into this bird bash!
- Stay out and about in the city all day to celebrate Halifax local food, fun, and shopping, on Saturday May 12! Open City Halifax features deals and free events all around town. Get downtown to HaliKids and make your own beaded necklace then take a stroll down Gottingen to check out Monster Comic Lounge’s Open Game Day, Nearby Planet VR where you can tour Halifax in Google Earth, and an Art Contest at North End Community Health Centre from 1-3.
- As part of the Animation Festival Halifax (AFX), Wonder’neath Open Studio hosts Dots & Loops: Open Studio Drop-In Workshop. There will be two sessions: 2-4:30 and 5-7 and it’s free and open to all ages and skill levels. Learn the basic principles of classical and replacement animation as you create your own simple animated loop!
