Treat the Momma, geek it up, get cartoonish, Ikeban-ish, and prepare for a HFX-wide open house!

1. Hey all you wonderful Mommas! Treat yourself to a night out! The Eventurous Theatre Company is hosting a theatre event… “Disaster” is set in 1979, and New York’s hottest A-listers are lining up for the opening of a floating casino and discotheque. We don’t want to spoil the show but let’s just say that everyone struggles to survive! Tickets are $19.50 for reserved theatre seat, May 10 or 11. For a seat at a table it’s $28.50, May 12. 2. Halifax Central Library’s 5th Annual Mini-Con is a full-day, all-ages celebration of all things geek. Come dressed in your favourite cosplay on Saturday and nerd out as Mini-Con takes over the Library for the day. It’s a FREE event! Everyone’s welcome!

3.Celebrate all things animation at The Animation Festival of Halifax (AFX) this weekend! With over 20 events connecting audiences and artists through the joy of animation, the festival showcases the best of what Halifax animations scene has to offer! The festival runs May 9-11. 4. There’s an Ikebana Exhibition at the Keshen Goodman Library this weekend! Ikebana is the art of Japanese flower arrangement, with formal display according to strict rules and practiced for more than 600 years! From Friday at 12 till Sunday at 5, backyard branches and flowers become Ikebana! Admission is FREE.

5. Reacquaint your family with old favourite shops, restaurants, and points of interest in Halifax and find new ones too. On Saturday, I <3 HFX Local presents the 8th Annual Open City. Get an up close and personal look at local establishments and some great deals!
