Hey Halifax! We’re up to some hijinks this weekend and hope you are too. This weekend’s list of practically free activities includes some STEM, Celtic Festivities, Beards, and…wait for it…Groundhog Day!
1. It’s a Party! It’s a grand opening celebration! It’s coding, video games, and STEM! Code Ninjas has opened in Halifax at 998 Parkland Drive, a place where kids can learn how to build their own video games and enjoy STEM activities. The party starts at 12 on Saturday and goes until 3.
2. Head to the Halifax Forum on Saturday! The Halifax Celtic Festival is having a Family Day! Doors open at 12 noon with performances including music, dance, pipers and more. There is also a children’s area featuring face painting, coloring, and learning. The event is all ages and FREE!
3. Feeling like a skate on the EMERA OVAL this Saturday evening? Urban Parent has the best excuse…Join Jerry Aulenback’s Beards on Ice 2020 and skate for a cause! Beards on Ice has raised $20,000 + over the past 5 years with your help. Let’s build on that momentum to keep raising funds for this incredible charity which helps women and children survive domestic violence and live better lives. 100% of funds raised will support programs in communities across Canada aimed at preventing domestic violence and teaching youth how to develop healthy relationships. Join Jerry for a skate Saturday at 7 and make a donation to help break the cycle of family violence in Canada.
4. It’s Groundhog Day and World Wetland Day on Sunday at Shubenacadie Wildlife Park. Will Shubenacadie Sam see his shadow? If he does, we are in for six more weeks of winter; however, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that either way, spring will arrive…one of these days. Sam will come out at 8 sharp to make his spring prophecy. 8 to noon there will be lots of activities including crafts, face painting, hot drinks, and more, AND checking out Sam’s forecast is free! The Wildlife Park is not accepting admission until noon.
