1. Nova Scotia is brimming with art, music, and literature this weekend as we celebrate Culture Days Friday through Sunday. Introduce the boys and girls to symphony musicians at Classical Munchkins, a free program for pre-schoolers offered at Captain William Spry and JD Shatford Memorial Public Libraries FRIDAY at 10:30. More free kid-friendly Culture Days activities are listed in RED on the Urban Parent Calendar. These include a Latin Art Workshop, a presentation on Mi’kmaq Food and Traditions, and NSCAD’s Open Studios.
2. Time to true your 20s and tweak your can-cans, there’s a BMX Jam going down at the Commons Park on Saturday at 1. The event is hosted by BMX News and sponsored by Sportwheels, Ryder Distribution, BSNS, and more. Get those riders to the Halifax Commons BMX Jam so they can do half-cabs in the half-pipe to their heart’s content!
3. Participate in an ancient Asian harvest festival at Pier 21! The Mid-Autumn Festival will be celebrated with musical activities, a water colour workshop, and “moon cake” making. It’s suitable for all ages and is presented in English in the Windsor Foundation Classroom. The cost is included with Museum Admission: under 5 are free and the family rate is $30.
4. Finally, why not dress up like a super human and take a Walk with Friends to celebrate and raise funds and awareness for Down syndrome! This annual walk with the Halifax NS Down Syndrome Society starts at Victoria Park at 1, promises fun for the whole family, and a super group walk down Spring Garden Road. All are welcome to join in on the afternoon’s Super Hero(ine)-themed fun!
