What does Cinderella, snow, whales and ice skating have in common? This weekend, Halifax!
1. Will Cinderella make it to the ball on time? Cinderella, a ballet, presented by the School of Dance at the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts. Choose from 2 shows, Sunday, February 16 at Spatz Theatre, 1 and 4. Come early for the pre-show children’s craft activity in the lobby at 12:15. For tickets visit www.tickethalifax.com
2. Every year the community of Sackville gets together to Celebrate the Snow Days. February 14-17 will blow your frosty mind with an avalanche of activities, breakfasts, and parties! Snow Days really kick off with a Free Family Costume Party on Friday at 6:30 at the Sackville Legion and Winter Play Day is in full frolic Saturday from 1-3 at Acadia Park. But wait, there’s more! Get up early on Saturday and head to the Kinsmen Community Centre and try some Snowshoeing this year! Snowshoeing starts at 9 and goes till 11, perfect timing to grab a movie with the fam at the Cineplex theatre! There’s also a Free Skate at Sackville Arena on Sunday at 3 and a Snow Days Parade on Monday beginning at the Legion at 2. It’s all FREE, people! There are just so many things happening at Sackville Snow Days we can’t cover them all. Head over to their schedule and plan your days well.
PS: Don’t miss the a free-to-enter scavenger hunt going on throughout the weekend, with a chance to WIN a $100 Freeman’s Pizza Party! Clues will be available on their website and at the Sackville Public Library on Friday morning at 10!
3. Have a whale of a time at the Discovery Centre on Saturday for World Whale Day! Celebrations begin with a centre-wide event exploring whales and dolphins that live in our waters. Compare whale body lengths using the whale rope; check out their communication underwater; and dive deep into some exciting research being done locally! Talk with Discovery Centre staff, their friends from JASCO, Ocean School, Parks Canada, BIO, and the Whale Sanctuary Project. Museum is open 10-5 and this sea of events is included in the price of admission!
4. It’s Nova Scotia Heritage Day at The Oval on Monday at 1! FREE skate and helmet rental! A day for all ages! Come dressed as your favourite mascot or character. There will be face painting and some visiting mascots to get photos with. A fun afternoon for the whole family. Helmets must be worn by all children 12 and under.
