Welcome Winter, Halifax with birds and Dickens, long nights and talking trees.
1. The Young Naturalists Club will once again participate in the longest running citizen science project in the world – the Christmas Bird Count! Lots of eyes are needed to spot all the birds possible in one morning, but no previous experience in bird identification is necessary to help out. Helped by special guests from the Nova Scotia Bird Society, bird spotters will be rewarded with warm apple cider, treats, and prizes! Meet at Point Pleasant Park at the far end of the lower parking lot, near the container pier, of at 9:30. To register, email YNC Halifax Chapter Coordinator, Karen McKendry at ynchalifax@yncns.ca.
2. Neptune Theatres Family Series has Halifax feeling fabulously festive! Head to Neptune for Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – running till December 28 – A heartwarming holiday classic for the whole family. Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is brought to life once again in this hilarious and haunted holiday experience. If you’ve never seen this story about redemption, charity, and the true spirit of Christmas live, this season is the time! Tickets start at $25.
3. The Afghan Society of Halifax presents the Long Night of Winter at their community centre on Lady Hammond and Commission Street. Sunday starting at 4 and going till 9, join in on The Long Night of Winter, cultural event that presents the cultural songs, poetry, food, dancing, and celebration of Yelda Night. Everyone is welcome to join this celebration.
4. Tinsel the Talking Christmas Tree is coming back to Lower Sackville! Watch the all kids in awe as Tinsel comes to life! Shows are roughly 20 minutes and run every half hour at Acadia Hall on Friday, from 6 to 8, Saturday and Sunday, from 2-4, Watch and listen to Tinsel for FREE. Any food donations will be greatly appreciated and accepted on behalf of Beacon House.
