Family, family, Fundy! Get set for The Olate Family’s performing dogs, Family Soccer Baseball, and a Rising Tide Festival, plus a sandcastle competition for good measure. The end of summer is on the horizon, so soak up the sun with your family while you still can!
1. It’s the Olate Dogs Rescue Tour and they are gracing the Spatz Theatre with their high-energy, fast-paced theatrical act filled with doggie friendly and amazing pet tricks. As seen on the seventh season of ‘America’s Got Talent’ this family (canines included) will wow your family, so hop to it Friday evening at 7! Tickets start at $24 and are available through the Spatz Theatre website.
2. Has your family made it for a free session of weekend soccer-baseball yet? Hosted by the Take Action Society, Family Soccer-Baseball happens every Saturday evening at 6 on the Harbour View Elementary School field in Dartmouth. What is soccer-baseball, you ask? Perhaps it’s like California kickball where a soccer ball takes the place of a baseball on a ball diamond, perhaps it’s a new mash-up of two of our favourite games…it’s up to your family to find out! Once you’re finished, maybe after you’ve stayed to watch the free outdoor film that follows, please leave us a comment and let us know how the game went!
3. This Weekend Wrap-Up’s Roadtrip Recommendation sends you farther than it’s ever sent you before…to the Fundy Shore for Fundy National Park’s 8th Annual Rising Tide Festival showcasing Atlantic Canada talent and hosting awesome workshops. It’s about a 3 and ½ hour drive from Halifax to the park close to the town of Alma, NB, but it’ll be worth it for sure if you have your Parks Canada free pass and have already reserved a campsite! The Fun(dy) starts on Friday at 10 and flows away on Sunday at 4:30. Admission is free. For real. All this Fundy for free.
4. Clam Harbour’s famous sandcastle contest that attracts thousands of people to the Eastern Shore is back! This Sunday marks the 39th year for the Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition. Park gates and registration opens at 9, there is a shuttle service to sand constructors to the beach. You’ll find the registration booth on the beach, directly off the boardwalk. People’s Choice Award voting starts at noon and judging starts at 3, ends at 4:30, and winners are announced at 5. Is this the year your family will win it? Please note there is a fee of $10 for adult groups to participate in the competition and no fee for children or youth.
Super-hot tip: The Ovens Natural Park in Riverport has their annual Naughty by Nature Music Festival coming up on September 9th and there are still campsites available (for festival goers only). Call to reserve at 1-902-766-4621. Check The Ovens’ facebook page soon for more information.
