Weekend Wrap-Up, April 19-21, 2019

Your weekend to geek out, a few things Easter, and love our Earth!

1. Spring Geequinox is Halifax’s most affordable weekend of geeky goodness! Running all weekend, you can support all your favorite clubs who gather at The Forum to fundraise for the year ahead! This year’s cohost clubs are Game Over, Cancer (gaming hosts!) SCA, MHA, Maritime Ghostbusters, FRAG, IKG, and the Jules Verne Phantastical Society! Plus, many other great organizations showing you what they have planned for you in 2019! A weekend pass is $15 and $10 for Sat or Sun. RSVP HERE!!

2. Saturday is the last day to hop on over to the Mic Mac Mall! At Bunnyland, located in the Bay Court on the 2nd level, you can have a visit, take a photo with a furry little friend, and get in the Easter spirit! Proceeds from photo packages, ranging from $7 to $30, go to Easter Seals Nova Scotia. But wait, there’s MORE…  Mic Mac Mall is also hosting an Easter EGG Hunt on Saturday, so after your venture to Bunnyland, check out the Egg Hunt. You must register to participate, $5, cash only with proceeds again going to Easter Seals Nova Scotia. To minimize congestion there will be 5 waves, starting at 9 and running till 1.

3. Celebrate Earth Day in your own special way! Spend time outdoors without electricity, repurpose when you spring clean, Pinterest, of course, has some ideas, plant wildflowers—the bees and butterflies like ‘em—clean up a stretch of road with the kids, skip the meat, avoid the Easter treats that take breaking through three layers of plastic before you get to the chocolate. Did you know that in some stores in Europe they don’t even use plastic, golly, bring your reusable containers and go to a zero waste bulk food store right in Halifax! There are tons of ways to practice and model good stewardship! What are some of yours?

4. Guess who will be hopping around the Hammonds Plains Community Centre this Sunday? That’s right! The Easter Bunny is in town and wants to have breakfast with you! In support of Sportball Atlantic Canada, Chef Lyle Kennedy from Creative Gourmet will be leading the preparation of tasty breakfast featuring locally sourced food. There are 3 sittings at 9, 10, and 11 to accommodate everyone! Tickets are free but required. .
