March Break Camps 2020

Make lemonade out of your March lions and lambs! Sign those kids up for some day camps to lighten up whatever weather might spring up at us this March 16-20. This year in HRM, organizations about town are happy to offer the following day camps and workshops for the March Break week. Check out the links below for more information and to register. Don’t delay! Spots are filling up fast.

ACADEMIC
Become a Juniorpreneur at CEED’s Juniorpreneur Camp! This five-day workshop is designed for budding entrepreneurs ages 8-14 to engage in activities involving teamwork, innovation, critical thinking, risk taking, and leadership. By Thursday, the juniorpreneurs will be actually running their own business! Revenue will be earned, costs tracked, and the rewards of hard work will be reaped. The week culminates with a pitching competition to family and friends as well as local entrepreneurs! This camp sells out quickly, so make sure to get in on the ground floor and sign up the young tycoon in your life. This camp takes place from 9:00 to 4:00 pm and costs $180 with snacks and Friday’s lunch included.

DANCE & CIRCUS
Jazz those kiddos up a little bit, put bebops and pirouettes into their steps, let them dance their way through the decades at “Dancing through the Decades” with Halifax Dance! This dancey daycamp is geared for ages 5-10 and no dance experience is necessary. It’s a full day, 9:00-4:30 with drop off starting at 8:30 and pick up until 5:00 and the cost is $240 for the five days. There will be classes in hip hop, jazz, creative, and more as well as arts, crafts, and fun games! Halifax Dance is also offering a half day camp (9-12) for ages 3-5, cost for the tinier dancers is $125.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, if life doesn’t feel enough like a three-ringed circus, send those kids to the circus! Atlantic Cirque’s March Break Camp, that is. Urban Parent is enormously happy to share that this camp has spots remaining for 7-12-year-olds, so send your budding jugglers, stilt walkers, acrobats, and trapeze artists to the big top! Every day from 9 until 4, students will learn an array of circus delights and put on a show for friends and family on Friday afternoon. Cost is $275 for the whole week and early drop-off and late pick-up is complementary.

TECH
For aspiring Game Designers, Game Developers, and Animators, March Break at Artech Camps will be where the future is happening! All four Artech camps being offered this March Break are held at 5685 Leeds St, Halifax, in the Downtown NSCC building.

From Pacman to Pokemon for 7-12 year olds: In this camp participants get to create all aspects of a 2d platform style game. They design, characters, monsters, collectibles and backgrounds as well as code the game. They get to layout and design the levels and develop the game play. $274 before January 31 (after $299).

Create New Realities using Unity 3d for kids 11-17 to gamify the experience. In this camp participants will get to design and develop a 3d game experience incorporating special features such as Augmented Reality! Participants get to design and craft their own game story and bring it to life in new realities similar to games like Pokemon Go! $274 before January 31 (after $299).

Camera Action Animate! For ages 10-14 to have fun with Stop Motion Animation. From concept through set design, character creation, filming and editing, campers will get to bring characters and stories to life in animated films using stop motion techniques. At week’s end there will be a mini film festival! $274 before January 31 (after $299).

Leaders in Training for ages 15-20 years, this is a program designed especially for campers who want to share their digital media knowledge with younger campers and go on to work at places like Artech Camps! (Pssst, there are openings at this year’s summer camps.) $299 before January 31 (after $324).

SCIENCE
March Break at Mad Science. Blast to the top of the class with an in-depth look at all things ROCKET! March Break at Mad Science will fly by as you travel through time looking at the earliest flying machines and discover the principles of aerodynamics and flight! Register online for 5 full days, $225 9-3:30 or 5 half days, $130, 9-12 / 12:30-3:30. (extended hours also available). This high flying fun takes off place at the Shambhala School, 5450 Russel Street.

CULTURE
Is it a bird? A plane? No, it’s SUPER March Break at the Museum! This year’s March Break at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is a superhero-themed week of music, dance, eating, and activities. Drop in with the kids Monday to Friday for hands-on learning and fun workshops featuring some favourite comic book characters and real life superheroes from the community. Each day celebrates something different.
