The sloth days of summer are upon us! Also, a farm, a race, and a market are too!

1. Urban Parents, this is a summer must do! The Discovery Centre’s first-ever live exhibition, Survival of the Slowest is on now and runs to the end of September. With this world-class educational experience learn survival strategies of some of nature’s wildest animals. Slow and steady wins the race! There are 12 live habitats for you to explore; see a two-toed sloth, African pygmy hedgehog, veiled chameleon, green iguana and lots more! Jump in on one of the presentations given by one of the knowledgeable wildlife educators. Cost is museum admission. Click here for the time schedule!

2. Spend the day at The Ross Farm Museum in New Ross! Take a drive down the South Shore (Exit 9 on Hwy 103) and enjoy hands-on activities such as planting, candle making, and wood-working with those kiddos. Visit heritage buildings, chat with friendly costumed interpreters and enjoy demonstrations of heritage skills and crafts!

3. Drop anchors in Hubbards Cove this Saturday for the 37^th World Tuna Flat Races! A family event for all ages! Teams of four race a quarter mile in the Hubbards Cove for the title of World Champions. The Tuna Flats are unique to St. Margaret’s Bay and were used for over 100 years in the tuna fishing industry. Registration is from 11am-12pm, races start at 12pm! $40 per team of 4 people!

4. Add a trip to the market to your weekend and load the fridge and pantry with local produce! Stop by the Farmers Market at The Halifax Forum! Open 8:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday in the Bingo Hall annex, with approximately 50 tables offering fresh local produce, eggs, meats, fish, crafts, plants and herbs, prepared food, wine, beer, cider, coffee, and tons of other stuff! There’s free admission and parking too.
