There are festivals of all flavours this weekend! See The Northern Lights on Saturday night, go to India at the Forum or get folksy in Lunenburg, even embark on a Strange Adventure… Take your pick, festival fanatics, or get real busy and do it all! It is possible, we’ve done the math.
1. Hit The Pit (aka Merv Sullivan Park in North End Halifax) on Saturday evening from 5-10 for the 14th Annual Northern Lights Lantern Festival. There will be pony rides and a petting zoo, bouncy castles, face painting, a free BBQ, live music, and, of course, a parade of lanterns at dusk followed by fireworks for a finale. This is a completely free community festival in the truest sense and everyone is welcome.
2. Just a twoonie gets you into India Fest! Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at The Forum from 11-8 there will be all things Indian, including henna. Your senses will be delighted with vibrant colours, delicious smells, and pleasant music.
3. The 32nd Annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival is this weekend, Thursday evening through Sunday! And that, our friends, is this Weekend Wrap-Up’s Roadtrip Recommendation! Visit this UNESCO World Heritage town for Nova Scotia’s longest running music festival. The venues are intimate, seagulls sing backup on the Wharf Stage, Lunenburg has amazing places to eat, and this town is definitely easy on the eyes. Some Free Family Concerts of note are Razzamatazz for Kids on the Tall Ships Stage at 10:30 on Friday, Jamie Junger (Fishin’ For Pickles) plays on the Tall Ships Stage at 3 and the Lunenburg Bandstand at 4:30 on Saturday, and The Barrowdowns hit the Lunenburg Bandstand at 4:30 on Sunday. There’s much more to see for free (festival passes for all paid venues and the Folksteps Music Conference on Thursday are $145 for adults, $72.50 for under 26) click here for the full schedule.
4. On Sunday, take a Strange Adventure to Alderney Landing to the Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival! It’s a free all-ages comics and cartooning annual celebration featuring dozens of artists and vendors with wondrous wares for display and sale running from 11-5.
